DIY Anna Sui inspired Turban

As the month of May is coming to an end, I'm excited to post May edition DIY project.
For S/S 2012 Fashion catwalks gleamed with all kinds of bohemian hair accessories, remember my post about
S/S 2012 trends and the retro headwraps?
I've been on the lookout for a nice colorful turban, perfect to partially hide my locks from the sun and show some fashion attitude.
Again, I turned to online sources..and I found Anna Sui's S/S 2012 collection featuring all kinds of head wraps. Isn't it so much more special to make your own?

You will need:
1. 1/4yd cotton fabric
2. Scissors
3. Ruler
4. Some pins
5. 1 1/4 " width elastic tape
6. Fine tip marker
7. Sewing needle & some thread

Also, you will need couple of sheets of white paper, a sewing machine and iron.
 Click to read further:
Step 1.
Use the following patterns to create your own with paper, ruler and a marker. Cut the finished patterns.

Step 2.
Fold the fabric piece as shown. Using pins, attach the pattern to fabric. Make sure it's straight. Then, cut out the piece adding 1/4" along edges as in picture. Repeat the same procedure for the second panel.

Step 3.
Now stitch each panel (right sides together, wrong sides facing you) 1/4" from edge, and make sure you leave the sides unstitched.

Step 4.
Now turn the panels inside out, trim edges to about 1/8" and press with iron.

Step 5.
Baste the edges of large panel, pull the thread to create shirring. Using iron, press the edges of small panel inside. Using a sewing needle and thread, hand stitch the edges together as shown.

Step 6.
Cut about 6" of elastic tape. Press both edges of large panel inside, sandwich the elastic between the side ends. Hand stitch the elastic to one side first. Then pull the small panel through, and hand stitch the other end of elastic tape to other side. Set the small panel in place with small tucks on each side.

Step 7.
Now your very own turban head band is ready to wear and turn heads!! :))
