DIY Lizzie Fortunato inspired Necklace

Dear Readers,

Today's DIY project is inspired by one of my favorite jewelry creators, Lizzie Fortunato. What particularly attracted my attention in her designs is fusion of curated objects around the world with fashion forward experimentation. As a result, we see innovative statement pieces and the envy of every fashionista.

For this project I also used reclaimed and even some old jewelry I haven't worn for years.

I bought two necklaces from H&M and dug out an old pearl necklace that was dusting away in my jewelry box. And of course, it couldn't go without a DC2NYCo twist...

Here's how:

1. Flat-nose pliers
2. Sewing needle
3.Gunmetal curb chain necklace ( from H&M) (similar here)
4. Rhinestone/Rose necklace from H&M
5. Old pearl necklace (similar here)
6.Two single floss packages (Lemon and Mocha) available at local craft store
Some extra black floss as well
7. Scissors

NYFW Best Glimpses

New York Fashion Week for Spring 2013 is officially behind us. 

It was a diverse mixture of 60s inspirations, tribal influences and even B&W photography by Helmut Newton...remember the harnesses?

Hundreds of designers have put their best work to the test of runways, crowds and industry pressure; and this season I have quietly witnessed the craze through my computer screen, overwhelmed with thousands of imagery. 

So, here are my most inspiring picks, curated for future #fabricproject(s) and brainstorming #diy opportunities right there, on the catwalk.

NYFW Spring 2013. On the streets

Lights, camera and glamour not only has captured the vivid runways, but also hit the streets.

Particularly, the lens of Vogue.com and Style.com photographers focused on accessories...

The sea of textures and creativity is overwhelming, in a good sense, of course.

Streetstyle by definition organically merges new trends, silhouettes, colors and patterns, 

so I'm in awe just looking at these.

Fabric Project No.9 "Little Black Peplum"

Hello, friends!

Fall is in the air, and it's time to rearrange the closet for those autumn pieces.

And of course, no modern girl can go without her little black dress.

It's appropriate for any occasion...from office chic to a date night or even an after-work night-out with pals. It's an undeniably important wardrobe piece for a savvy fashionista (like myself... wink wink )  

Also, I noticed this season is all about peplums, those over-skirts usually placed around the waist. 

I found a perfect inspiration: a gorgeous asymmetric dress by Tory Burch, just a mere $375 (but custom-made for me, haha)

And here's my version, similar to original, but of course, with DC2NYConfessions twist.

Look of the Day. Exotic Red and Roses

Finally, #fabricproject No.8 has come to life!
This dress really got me thinking of fall, since color red is a hot topic for upcoming season.
Sewing the dress was no brainer, some draping here and there; this time jersey "behaved" well under the pressure of sharp scissors and unforgiving sewing machine. But all is well :)
So, I stepped outside to say hi to my roses, shyly smiling to me with their petals, a pretty sight for the eye. Few more glimpses of summer, (then Indian summer) and soon we greet fall.

Fabric Project No.8. Work in progress

It's been a bit of a challenge to stay in my studio with the last month of summer...

Rather, I would enjoy the sun and outside warmth while it lasts.

Finally, I'm glad to be back to work, lay out the fabric and sharpen the scissors!

And here it is #FabricProject No.8 preview in progress.

The jersey drapes with ease and my beautiful dress is coming to life.

I'll post my look of the day by the end of this week.. promise.
